An Ember in the Ashes Review

An Ember in the Ashes Review

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I can tell I’ve been fighting off a massive reading slump lately as although I could tell this book was excellent I still couldn’t get excited about it. Now I’m further into the series I’m finally getting into it but I know if I hadn’t been riding out this slump I’d have devoured it.

The book is dual POV, which I love, though it takes a long time for the two characters storylines to become properly intertwined. This series is four books long though so you kind of need to be in it for the long haul. There’s also not a lot of romance so if you’re more a romantasy fan then maybe not enough for you.

Having said that, the world building is fantastic. There’s so much to unravel and the writing is excellent as well making the world and it’s history more accessible.
I just wish I’d read this at a different time when my brain was more in fantasy mode as I think it may well have been a five star read for me then.
