Legendary by Stephanie Garber
Synopsis: Scarlett has always longed to see the magic of Caraval with her sister, Donatella. But when the opportunity arises it’s not the wonderful experience Scarlett anticipated. She’s forced to work together with Julian, a total scoundrel, to solve the mystery and win the game of Caraval, but the further into the game she gets the higher the stakes become.
This book swaps pov from Caraval, this time focusing on Donatella, Scarlett’s sister. I actually welcomed this change. ‘Tella is a more exciting character, she’s more daring and adventurous than Scarlett and this carries through both the mystery and adventure in the story, as well as the romance. The romance never quick clicked for me in Caraval and I wonder if this is why, Tella revels in the romance, whereas Scarlett is much more reluctant and cautious.
There does seem to be a heavier focus on the romance in this story. There is still a compelling mystery to solve, and I enjoyed digging deeper into some of the myths and stories that we were introduced to in the first book, particularly those surrounding the Fates. But, I know that the romance being brought to the forefront might not be for everyone.
And then there’s those boys. I knew I was going to enjoy this book more, and was eager to get to it as quickly as possible, once I heard that Jacks featured in it. And he did not disappoint. He was just as heartbreakingly perfect as I expected after reading Once Upon A Broken Heart. What I did not expect though was for Dante to give him a run for his money. That was both a pleasant surprise and an unwanted intrusion!
I definitely preferred this book to the first one and can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.
