This book was on my ‘spooky season tbr’ and I never quite got to it so when I saw one of our bookish friends on Instagram was hoping to read it too I jumped at the chance to buddy read it.
I’ll try to keep this spoiler free, and brief! I really liked the concept of this story and was keen to see how it panned out but, if I hadn’t been buddy reading it, I don’t know if I’d have got through it. The story is kind of bleak and there was very little ‘light’ in it. I don’t know if I really liked any of the characters very much, I definitely didn’t really connect with them, so I think that made it harder to get into.
However, the writing was great. I liked the world building and this whole idea of the Book Eaters. Maybe if I’d read it at Halloween I’d have been more in the mood for something glum 🤷🏻♀️
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ - I feel like it deserves more than this but it was hard work.
